Sowing Seeds

Across rural America, farmers put in long hours to plant their crops – to sow that precious seed. Sunshine and rain are needed to cause the seed to grow and bring forth a harvest. In this three-part series Pastor Paul will look at sowing a different kind of seed – the Gospel seed.

“What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe- as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow”, I Corinthians 3:5-7. Paul reminds the believers in Corinth that God used his servants to share the Gospel message with them. Paul planted and Apollos watered the Gospel seed.

Men, look at the words in bold. God has given you a task in this sowing of the Gospel seed. He has assigned you a task and has gifted you uniquely for this mission.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
God will even open doors and give you unique opportunities to sow or water that Gospel seed. However, it is God that changes hearts and lives. We are called to share the Gospel with people and leave the results to God!

"If we understand what lies ahead for those who do not know Christ,
there will be a sense of urgency in our witness." David Jeremiah

Sowing Seeds, Pt 2

Life is like a garden for you to reap what you sow. Today we look at our choices, our sowing, and the resulting consequences, our reaping.

INSIGHTS FOR YOUR TOOLBOX
There are at least 70+ verses about sowing in Scripture. Here are just a few that caught my attention.

  • “They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind”, Hosea 8:7.

  • “One who sows injustice will reap disaster”, Proverbs 22:8

  • “The one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward” Proverbs 11:18

  • “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness”, James 3:18

We do reap what we sow. “Life is like a boomerang. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.” Grant M. Bright

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
“Sow a thought, reap an act; sow an act, reap a habit;
sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” Charles Reade

Sowing Seeds, Pt 3

Did your mother ever send you out to pull weeds in the garden? Mine did. Mom was determined to keep those weeds from overtaking her harvest of vegetables. In today’s devotional, we look at the weeds of sin that can take root in our lives.

INSIGHTS FOR YOUR TOOLBOX
After the farmer sows his crop, weeds can crop up choking out those new plants affecting that harvest. Sin is like those weeds or that underbrush that we talked about in our video. Henry Blackaby says this: “Sin is our most persistent, determined, and pernicious enemy. Sin seeks to rob us of every good thing God has designed for us. It relentlessly entangles our lives.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The good news is that God’s grace abounds to free us from that sin that so easily entangles us. Romans 5:20 declares, “but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more”. True repentance produces spiritual fruit and a harvest of righteousness.

What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow.
